Clinical Pilates
What is Clinical Pilates?
Clinical Pilates can be used in helping treat and, most importantly, prevent back pain, neck pain shoulder and arm pain, and hip and knee pain. It can also improve posture and muscle tone, provide greater flexibility and increase balance.
How does Clinical Pilates work?
Our bodies are made up of various layers of muscles from superficial to deep. Conventional exercise predominantly works our superficial muscles. Clinical Pilates targets our deep core muscles. These deep muscles aid in stability around the joints of the body which are vulnerable to injury. Clinical Pilates aims to improve the body’s control and stability of the abdominal, pelvic floor and deep stabilizing back muscles and to help promote injury prevention.

Real Time Ultrasound
At Hawthorn Osteopathy we have real time ultrasound. This is a unit that allows us to visually assess your core muscles. Many of the people who participate in Clinical Pilates greatly appreciate actually being able to see their core muscles on a screen and get a better understanding of what activating the 'core muscles' feels like.
What we offer at Hawthorn Osteopathy
When you begin Clinical Pilates at the Hawthorn Osteopathy, you will first receive
a full clinical assessment by an Osteopath trained in Clinical Pilates. From this assessment, a personalized program will be tailored to your body. Real time ultrasound is used during our assessment. This allows us to visualize and measure your core muscles and also allows you to see your core muscles activating.
A minimum of three private lessons are recommended to teach and perfect your program. Clients wishing to continue Clinical Pilates can purchase a package of lessons at a discounted rate.
Our Clinical Pilates studio is a small scale personal studio. It caters for individual lessons or lessons with a maximum of three people. We believe the attention of a trained professional is vital in achieving the correct technique and ensures your program can be continually revised and changed as you advance.
Classes are available during clinic opening hours, and may be claimable on Private Health Insurance, depending on your health insurer and level of cover.
